Sterling Silver

  • Sterling silver has 92.5% pure silver, the rest is copper and is naturally prone to tarnishing. Because sterling silver is a soft metal, do not use a regular toothbrush to clean. Instead, try using a soft, non abrasive sponge or an infant toothbrush and warm water with a mild soap to remove any grit or dirt. Here's a natural way to clean your sterling silver jewelry at home without harsh chemicals.
  • Line a tray with aluminum foil, shiny side facing up.
  • Add your tarnished jewelry to the foil, be sure to not crowd the jewelry and do not allow jewelry to touch.
  • Heat 1 cup of water to a rolling boil (enough water to cover jewelry).
  • Add baking soda 1 - 2 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon of sea salt to boiling water.
  • Stir until baking soda and sea salt dissolves using a wooden spoon.
  • Carefully pour the water/baking soda mixture into tray of jewelry.
  • Bubbles will appear and lift away from the tarnished jewelry.
  • Once cool, remove the jewelry and rinse with warm running water.
  • If any tarnish is still present, repeat process using a new sheet of aluminum foil... Or use a soft toothbrush and soapy water to remove excess or use a soft microfiber or polishing cloth towel to remove excess.
  • Thoroughly blot jewelry dry and store in an airtight container or display.
  • Silver jewelry is made with Sterling. To achieve the black, gunmetal look, the metal pieces are dipped in a heated patina bath to blacken the silver. Patina is a surface treatment, so the blacken affect will eventually dull or wear off overtime. Simply use a mild soap, warm water and your fingers to gently clean your oxidized jewelry.

Plating and Vermeil
The plating durability will depend on each wearer's usage and body sweat. Some bodies are more prone to sweat than others, in that case, the plating will come off faster. For your plating to last longer, do not expose your jewelry directly when exercising, showering or washing your hands.

For platings and vermeil gently rub and polish with a soft cloth or microfiber cloth. Avoid polishing cloth or silver cloth unless they specifically say “un-treated” otherwise they often contain polishing agents and chemicals meant for silver and not gold. Keep in a dry place.

If you would like your jewelry to be re-plated, please send us an email at Hello@anavirstudio.com so we can quote accordingly.

14K & 18K Gold
There are a variety of gold karats 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K and 24K. The higher the karat the brighter the gold and purity and ANAVIR incorporates 14K and 18K gold in various jewelry designs. 14K gold has a beautiful warm glow. It has 58.3% gold and 41.7% is an alloy and is hypoallergenic for most. Karat gold is really easy to clean using polishing clothes or warm, mild soapy water with a soft cloth to keep them fresh and clean.

14K Gold-Filled
Gold-filled jewelry has a solid layer of 14K gold bounded over a base metal such as bronze or brass, sometimes copper. 14K gold-filled is hypoallergenic. Clean gold-filled jewelry keeps it shine by using 100% polishing or microfiber cloths. Store in an airtight container to maintain its luster.

Gemstones and pearls

We recommend cleaning items with a soft toothbrush and a mild soap like the original "Dawn" dish soap. For items with mounted stones or pearls, these can be cleaned by soaking in warm soapy water to loosen any dirt or grime before brushing. Please do not wear your pearls or softer stones (emeralds, opals) in chlorinated pools. Do not store your pearls in a plastic bag, as the chemicals of the bag will damage the luster of the pearls.

On Ultrasonic cleaners: All-gold jewelry (without stones) is perfectly fine for the ultrasonic, but keep in mind that consumer ultrasonic models don't always clean as well as the "toothbrush and soap option" above. Never ever put pearls, opals, emeralds, topaz, tanzanite, turquoise, lapis lazuli, moonstone or malachite in an ultrasonic cleaner. Generally we do not recommend using ultrasonic cleaners for any jewelry with gemstones other than diamonds.
